The Integrity of Transmission

The Integrity of Transmission: A Critical Examination of the Case Against the Sunni Hadith Method is a collection of essays examining four principal objections advanced by Hassan al-Qadri of Purified Truth against the foundations and reliability of Sunni hadith scholarship.
The work critically examines the doctrine of adalat al-sahaba, the relationship between political authority and the early transmission of Prophetic traditions, and allegations that Sunni traditionists deliberately suppressed or altered historical reports to preserve an idealised image of the Companions. Drawing extensively upon the Qur'an, authentic Prophetic traditions, classical exegesis, early historical accounts and the writings of prominent hadith critics, these essays seek to distinguish demonstrable historical evidence from theological presupposition and speculative inference. Although occasioned by a contemporary polemic, the underlying enquiry is considerably broader: whether the objections advanced against Sunni hadith scholarship withstand critical examination, and what constitutes sufficient evidence to challenge the integrity of a transmitted religious tradition.
